India to attend 2-day cotton workshop in China
NEW DELHI, APRIL 25:
India, the world’s second biggest cotton producer, will attend a two-day workshop scheduled from June 21 in Beijing to discuss improving the forecast system for cotton production as well as the supply situation.
The Washington-based global cotton body ICAC, which is assisting with organising the agenda of the workshop, said in a statement: “India and Pakistan have confirmed participation by key industry officials in the workshop.”
The workshop with the theme ‘Estimating cotton supply and use in the 21st century’, will address the issues of improving the methodology of estimating cotton supply and use in major cotton economies.
The workshop will also discuss best practices in estimating cotton supply and use, gathering and evaluating data and coordinating different sets of data between agencies in the largest producing countries as well as improving accessibility of the data, the ICAC said.
Recommendations of the workshop will be sent to national government agencies and the industry for policy making.
The China National Cotton Information Centre (CNCIC), subordinate to the China National Cotton Reserves Corporation under the State Council, will host the workshop, it said.
India’s cotton production is expected to touch a record 33.9 million bales of 170 kg each this year.
