Prices for Cotton Rising, Your Favorite Products Could be Next
CORPUS CHRISTI - Cotton prices are rising rapidly, and local experts say several factors are to blame.
Jeffery Stapter of the Nueces County Agriculture Department says, at its core the problem is a simple case of supply and demand.
There is a high demand for the crop used in countless items, from clothing to medical supplies.
Stapter says, there is a worldwide cotton shortage, and that is driving up the price. The prices could eventually drive up items we use everyday.
"So, because of that competition out there for acres we're not seeing a dramatic rise in the number of acres planting and that's also helping to support the dramatic rise in cotton prices," Stapter said.
