Cotton Rally to Spark 15% Gain in U.S. Planting, Texas A&M Says

  • Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Record prices will spark a 15 percent jump in U.S. planting in the year that begins Aug. 1, compared with the current season, said John Robinson, a professor and extension economist at Texas A&M University in College Station.

    “Higher prices are ultimately going to induce more acreage in the U.S.,” Robinson said today during a conference call organized by Ag Market Network. Cotton prices climbed 92 percent in 2010, the most since 1973.
